INFORMATION ABOUT PARTICIPATION 2010

1. Registration

The deadline to register as a participant of DDW 2010 has expired. Registration was possible from early May until July 1, 2010.
DDW has a online application for registration. New applications will be assessed by co-curators Roland Bird and Marijn van der Poll and participants manager Katja Lucas. Within a month there will be contact concerning the result of the application.

Selection committee provides a well-balanced event that is inspiring for the visitor, the participant and the producer. They aim to select participants and products that contain elements characterised by the following criteria:

  • The design has to be original and imaginative
  • Forms and materials have to support the function of the product
  • The design has to be in line with the basic principles of Dutch Design Week.

2. Participants

Participants can take part in DDW at their own location or in the Klokgebouw, DDW location at Strijp S.

In principle, participants fall into one of the following categories:

1. designer, design firm, designer group

2. company, producer, manufacturer

3. school, educational institute

4. international participant

Ad 1. All participants are expected to be closely involved in the creation of what is presented. Participants are also expected to be present at the location during Dutch Design Week to allow visitors a peek into the kitchen of contemporary design, give them first-hand information about their work and introduce their company.

Ad 2. DDW organisation challenges companies, producers and manufacturers to show what design means to them in creative ways rather than in a standard presentation of products. DDW is not a commercial fair. Innovative ideas can be developed in consultation with the organisation, who can also supply relevant examples. Companies are also expected to have on-the-spot representatives to give verbal explanations to the visitors.

Both designers and companies have to observe the following: no active sales presentations, no price tags on the products, and no web shop promotions. DDW expressly refuses to be a distribution channel for product sales. Participants are not shopkeepers but exponents of design from the Netherlands.

Ad 3. Schools, educational institutes and related institutions are housed in a collective presentation (except presentations at their own location). Each year, one particular school or educational institute is selected to do the design and the realisation of the whole. In 2010, this is Saxion Next from Deventer. DDW organisation will make the selection in cooperation with Saxion Next.

Ad 4. DDW is open to international participants, provided there is a clear link with the Netherlands. This can be a student contact, an exchange of designers, or a cross-border cooperative project. The Finnish company Iittala, for instance, will be present during DDW 2010 with a presentation in cooperation with Royal Leerdam and Dutch designers.

Fees

The participation fees are 150, 200 or 400 Euros, depending on the type of participant. DDW provides the coordinating organisation, promotion and communication of the entire event.

Participants may organise several activities during DDW. For each event, a separate registration fee has to be paid. There are three possibilities:
1. Exhibition can be visited during the whole Dutch Design Week.
2. Event lasts 1 or 2 half-days (e.g. lecture, workshop, conference, award-giving ceremony, etc.).
3. Hotel and/or catering (e.g. food, party, or hotel night).

Location

During the event, DDW organisation manages its own location, the Klokgebouw, a former Philips factory at Strijp-S. Yksi Ontwerp provides the overall spatial layout and the furnishings of the four halls. The plots are constructed of partitions and blocks. Participants can rearrange the blocks as they see fit in order to express their own identity. This saves time and money and ensures a uniform presentation. The lot price is € 60,- per m2 (ex VAT), minimum amount 10 m2.

Promotion DDW

Participants who also provide communications for their own event are obliged to insert DDW logo in these communications according to the guidelines below. Insertion of DDW logo is also a precondition for participation in the collective flyer distribution of DDW in Eindhoven.

The DDW 2010 participant logo can be found under ’documents’ in the left column of your participant account.

To preserve uniformity in appearance, it is important to use the logo of Dutch Design Week in a responsible manner. The logo may therefore not be adapted or modified. The minimum measure for placement is 2 cm width. The logos in eps format can be enlarged without problems. The logos in jpg format may be enlarged up to 120% of the original.

Participants also have to distribute the printed communications of DDW, such as posters, magazine and flyers, at their own location to ensure a wide dissemination of the event.

Participants with a site of their own containing information about their participating event have to create a hyperlink or banner to www.ddw.nl
