Ambassadors DDW announced

02 April 2015

Studio Makkink & Bey and Koert van Mensvoort are the new ambassadors for Dutch Design Week (DDW). During the fourteenth edition of the event, from 17 until 25 October 2015, they will fulfil  representative and intrinsic tasks. Through this, they support the event in a general sense and the latest batch of designers in particular.

Motivation

In selecting Makkink & Bey, DDW has responded to the growing interest for interdisciplinary working, teaching and thinking. Koert van Mensvoort’s appointment is in line with the organisation’s conviction that there is an increasing, widely supported desire for new schools of thought for social issues.

Makkink & Bey

Architect Rianne Makkink (1964) and designer Jurgen Bey (1965) have demonstrated their strong commitment to the international design world on many levels for many years. As Studio Makkink & Bey, they have connected different disciplines since 2002, for example product design with interior design, applied arts with architecture, exhibition and landscape design, and they research social and economic systems. Both are active in education, act as curators and work with upcoming designers on a regular basis, including many DDW participants. More information: www.studiomakkinkbey.nl.

Koert van Mensvoort

Designer, philosopher and scientist dr. Koert van Mensvoort (1974) investigates the possible role of technology and design for the society of the future. He is the founder and director of the Next Nature Network and holds lectures around the world. Since 2003 he has lectured at the faculty of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2014 the Next Nature Network won a Dutch Design Award in the category Design Research for The In Vitro Meat Cookbook, a cookbook about cultured meat. More information: www.mensvoort.com
