The tide rugs are a new way of using a rug, where one can find comfort in its aspects. It's shape and depictions refer to waves and serenity.

They are large sculptural interactive rugs that are meant to be different than an ordinary rug is, the centrepiece of a room. Its structure underneath the rug is build to invite the user to use their bodies to enjoy the rug, as it can be used as actual furniture.

The general description

The tide rugs are a set of two 1 x 3 meter tufted rugs, made from second hand wool yarns. Where I as designer normally design and create rugs that are either wall-mounted or floor pieces, the tide rugs are something completely different as it features a skeletal structure underneath the rug. A wooden frame, also from mostly second hand and up-cycled materials, acts as an arch to elevate the rugs. Where one can not just walk on the pieces, you can now also enjoy the softness and comfortable qualities of the wool and the rug in its self.
The idea came to life with the intent to expose the pieces in a library or other public place, to offer readers and the public a chance to use it and come to peace whilst reading a book or magazine.
The name references the tranquility of changing tides and waves in general. And both the form of the pieces and the depictions and shapes are meant to intertwine.

The tide rugs are premiering at Dutch Design Week
