This project was part of DDW 2021

The project aims to explore how textiles can be the shaping foundation of interior objects by using different knitting principles and a range of material properties. The result for this work is a collection of five form objects and a DIY platform where others are invited in the form creating.

Shaping knitted interiors

This is a practice based research work which investigates how materials properties and knitted textiles can create form by using them as the construction material.
In the field of interior design, textiles are often used for upholstery or to hide materials that we see as ugly and not suitable for our living. Textiles are therefore also sometimes shaped by hard materials such as wood, metal, etc. KNITTING PRINCIPLES creates form aims to let both the knitted textiles and other soft materials to dictate the shaping of the design. By using a concept of knitting principles , it is possible to create forms in different scales, materials and expressions.

The work aims to incorporate knowledge sharing and focus on democratic design. The physical part of the project consists of a series of textile objects that can be interacted with by the viewer or a user. The user has the opportunity to change the use and how the form appears.
