A variety of interactions are investigated that can arise from material meetings between textile and concrete. Tactile surfaces, internal interactions and impressions are created by applying the matter experimentally, thus removing any preconceived notions of how concrete can be applied.

Interactions explored

Influence of Concrete on Fabric, the concrete holds the fabric in place very firmly in these pieces and does not allow for movement in the main form, almost as though the two materials have become one. Where the textile leaves the concrete is where hard and soft can really be compared and how the concrete has an effect on the movement and surface qualities between the two areas.

Inner interaction is aided by a rock saw, by slicing concrete open the movement of fabric placed within whilst wet is revealed. uncovering fabric frozen in time.

Combining flimsy and light materials with such a dense, industrial substance of concrete this allowed differing volumes of fabric to be included in the concrete. In this class named Material Interaction, the process of extracting the material is documented and the results compared.

Impressions are captured by stitching forms to explore the creation of soft-looking shapes from a hard material. This diverseness was represented in the folds and creases that can be cemented forever by fabric left to dry in the concrete - things that are usually very temporary.
