A renewed approach to hand weaving and interior textile design
Stand Up Weave challenges interior textile design by exploring weaving from a sculptural and spatial perspective through the use of multiple-layer weave in combination with construction of form, colours and combinations with wood and plexiglass.
Hand-weaving has a long history within traditional craftsmanship and today it is often associated with this museumised past, although there still exists a large industry dependent on this particular technique. During this project a question emerged; how can this historical textile technique be applied to a modern design context?
At the end of the project a possible answer to this question was found.
A collection of three designs, all woven with the same warp, same loom and same technique was developed. They all demonstrate different ways of how simple tools, knowledge and experience can be united to produce entire three-dimensional designs in one single weaving process.
