The Art of Decorative Imitation Techniques

Exploration
Theun Nouwens investigated forgotten decorative imitation techniques, inspired by centuries-old practices of mixing natural pigments with oil and egg tempera. He experimented with raw materials and handmade paints, reviving artisanal methods in a contemporary and personal way.

Creation
For his bachelor graduation project, he created a decorative object that served as both artwork and experimental test piece. By combining historical craftsmanship with modern expression, the work bridges tradition and innovation.

Engagement
By reinterpreting familiar forms and applying traditional paints to various surfaces, Theun invites viewers to reconsider material, form, and the dialogue between past and present craftsmanship.
