Back and forth: Café ocho by OFFSITE
OFFSITE is a design label from Eindhoven. The collection consists of furniture that each starts from an industrial waste stream: deadstock, rejected production runs or used material. By working closely with manufacturers, OFFSITE turns these continuous streams into usable material, and that material into furniture for hospitality and interior projects. For this exhibition, the material comes from Staco, Unilin, Palet, Volta Energy, Brainport Assemblers, Hydro and Befo.
Café ocho shows the furniture where it was made to be: in use. Everything in the café is part of the exhibition, from the chairs to the vases. It is a warm place, where the waste material stays in the background. It is part of the production process, as with any other piece of furniture. By combining materials and using them in unusual ways, separate and unique materials come together as one.
New this year is Lamella, a cabinet by Nina van Bart and Willem van Doorn, made from rejected steel cladding slats from Staco. The exhibition also shows work by Rik van Veen, Structural Aspect, Julius Esser, Rik Frans Jansen and Joris Wintgens, with curtains by Yvonne Mak.
