Planq
Bakkie? Dutch for “Fancy a coffee?” At DDW, PLANQ gives familiar furniture new life with coffee grounds. What remains from one coffee moment becomes part of the next.

A classic, made differently

Do we really need another new chair? BAKKIE starts with a familiar shell chair and changes what matters: the material. PLANQ uses coffee grounds as a raw material, giving an everyday waste stream a new journey. With BAKKIE, PLANQ brings fresh life to this everyday form. Coffee grounds find a new purpose as a raw material for the chair. Its familiar character remains, with a reason to look again: at the design, its origins and the value of what we leave behind every day.

Common Ground

Coffee is part of daily life, from construction canteens to boardrooms and from neighbourhood cafés to design studios. Rituals differ across cultures, but sharing a coffee creates a natural moment to meet. In Dutch, “Bakkie?” captures that invitation in a single word: a moment to pause, catch up and connect. BAKKIE carries this spirit into furniture for shared spaces, designed to belong wherever people come together. Coffee grounds become material; material becomes a chair; and the chair becomes a place for new conversations.

Future of furniture

BAKKIE builds on PLANQ’s research into furniture made from discarded materials and its earlier use of recycled textiles. With coffee grounds as its next raw material, the brand connects sustainability with design and material innovation. The collection asks a simple question: can we rebuild familiar furniture using what is already here? A recognisable form gains new meaning and a place in the future. This is Future Furniture, shaped from the raw material up. From the Ground Up.
