A Space for Awe and Optimism
With Beacons of Hope, Rive Roshan proposes that hope is not merely a concept, but a vital, sensory experience that must be actively designed into our environments. In an era where concerns surrounding climate change, rapid AI advancements and societal fragmentation dominate the collective consciousness, the installation counters fear with a gesture of lightness.
By creating works that synchronise with our breathing rhythms and stimulate the senses, the studio creates a physical space for visitors to pause, reflect and engage in open dialogue about our shared future.
“In a world going through increased insecurity, polarisation and uncertainty, we believe it is essential to carve out spaces that nurture optimism and togetherness,” state Golnar Roshan and Ruben de la Rive Box, founders of Rive Roshan. “Throughout history, architectural glass in cathedrals and Eastern architecture has been used to inspire awe and ground people in the present moment. By marrying the natural phenomena of refracted light with kinetic technology, we want to recreate these deeply innate experiences, offering a moment of joy that reconnects us to our senses and the people around us.”
Blending Material Innovation and Art
The installation is crafted using Rive Roshan’s signature glass marquetry technique, developed and refined by the studio over several years. The standing sculptural beacons offer an intricate interaction between colour, texture and movement. Driven by a moving light structure engineered in by Studio Ravenhorst, the shifting illumination unifies the beacons into a mesmerising, unified dance.
The installation also incorporates mirrored sides which further amplify the ethereal interplay of light and space.
The project is kindly partly sponsored by materials company Pyrasied.
