Light in a new daylight
Broad Daylight emerged following a dark period of mourning, when Billie-Jo saw her feelings reflected in the form and setting of a lamppost in broad daylight—like the personification of an emotion.
Moved by this image, she turned her camera toward the diverse shapes and appearances of streetlights during the day. Billie-Jo captures these everyday urban objects and—through an intuitive use of color and composition—transforms them into universal metaphors for themes such as grief, solace, resilience, and a renewed zest for life.
Within ECHO, her work resonates with the material context: Nedal’s production of lighting poles aligns directly with her work, while the images are mounted on aluminum, reinforcing the dialogue between material and meaning.
