Why we shouldn’t leave politics to politicians alone
Our Democracy is under pressure. Populism and polarisation are growing, and more people are losing trust in politics, democracy, and a collective future. We need a unifying approach to long-term issues, like climate change, rapid technological development, housing shortages, and aging populations.
A solution to this is citizens’ assemblies. They bring together a diverse group of people, everyday people with different views and interests, not running for election. Together, they learn, discuss, and develop fair approaches for complex issues. They help politicians tackle today’s major challenges, resulting in a stronger, more resilient democracy. Over a thousand assemblies have taken place worldwide, showing that democracy is not about winning elections but about building the future together.
