Media artist Simon Weckert designed a wearable adversarial attack - a shirt made to confuse the algorithm.

About the project

DIGITAL CAMOUFLAGE is a wearable art piece that critically examines the rapid expansion of AI-driven surveillance in public spaces. The garment's adversarial pattern is designed to rendering the wearer invisible to AI object detection models while remaining entirely visible to the human eye.

The tech

DIGITAL CAMOUFLAGE's pattern was developed and tested against an algorithm called YOLOv3 (You Only Look Once), an open-source architecture that underpins much of today's commercial video analytics. It specifically targets the visual features the algorithm looks for when identifying a human figure.

Where to find us at DDW

You can meet us in person and test the shirt physically at the Schellens Fabriek, where we will be part of the something.bigger exhibition. In addition to our main presence there, pieces of our work will also be on display at two other locations: Sectie-C and Potenhuis. Stop by to see the adversarial fabric up close and join the conversation about privacy, technology, and the future of our public spaces!
