Zoe Prifti
The research explores uses for discarded fish skins from local fisheries. To make remind the audience of seductive mermaids, I have made swimwear. The leather itself is not waterproof so I have added a bio-based coating.

Who What Why How

Mermaid Skins is where actual green innovation meets desirability. For the love of craftsmanship by those who swim against the current.

In my creative practice, I explore uses for waste from fisheries. Up til now, the focus of my research has been on fish skins and my role as a bio-based material designer is to make fish leather sexy. It’s positioned as a fashionable and competitive material of the future.

My company, Mermaid Skins, calls upon alluring mermaid references to demonstrate the strong, beautiful and versatile qualities of fish leather. The process of working towards a circular and sustainable future becomes a seductive journey with my latest collection of fish leather lingerie.
