Technology with Purpose
Data and AI are becoming more powerful and present in almost every part of our lives.
But their impact depends on what we design them to do.
What if we applied this power to create measurable good for the living world?
Beyond the Trap
We explore how physical products, data, AI, citizen participation and ecological knowledge can work together as one protective ecosystem.
At its centre is a smart hornet trap, designed to target the invasive yellow-legged hornet while minimising the impact on native insects.
Beyond the device, we explore how responsible, connected technologies can enable precise and measurable action.
Developed together with the Arvespa Foundation and informed by the experience of beekeepers, a prototype provides the starting point for this wider vision.
A Broader Question
This project asks: How can we reinvent the role of technology as a force for protecting the living world?
Join us at Dutch Design Week 2026 to explore how design and technology can make a positive impact on ecology.
