How much control do you really have over your scrolling habits?
For you, social media might be a place for friendship, connection, entertainment and self-discovery. At the same time, platforms are designed to hold our attention for as long as possible.
Instead of telling you to put your phone away, Uitgescrolled invites you to explore how you can build a healthier relationship with social media. On your own, or together with your friends and family.
What can Uitgescrolled do for you?
At Uitgescrolled, you move through four phases. In each phase, you discover something new about your relationship with social media — and what you can change yourself.
1. QUICK SCAN: Where do you stand?
How much control do you have over your social media use? How often do you pick up your phone without even noticing? What bothers you a little, and what bothers you a lot? Take the quick scan and discuss your findings with the people around you.
2. WEIGH IT OUT: What does it bring you?
Social media has both benefits and downsides. What gives you energy, and what drains you? What matters most to you?
3. CHALLENGE STARTER KIT: Time to experiment
Are you tired of all the notifications? Do you feel insecure online? Choose a challenge that fits you. Your starter kit is filled with tips, tricks and small challenges to help you discover how to gain more control over your social media use.
4. TAKE IT HOME: Keep the conversation going
Take your discoveries home with you. A series of playful products helps you continue the conversation around the kitchen table. Share your experiences, try something new and discover together what works for you.
From Social Design Talent Award to the next step
This project builds on Digital Detoxery, my social design research into young people’s concerns and wishes for the future of social media. After presenting the project at Dutch Design Week 2025 and winning the Social Design Talent Award, I explored how these ideas could be translated into practical solutions.
The result: Uitgescrolled, a social media repair café where you can experiment together with building a healthier relationship with social media during Dutch Design Week 2026.
