Studio Uncertainty
AI's uncertainty is often viewed as a problem. These projects propose using that very uncertainty as a design material. Moving through three projects that dive increasingly deep into what it reveals, what it can create, and what forms it can take. Studio Uncertainty is where it began. We discovered that uncertainty can be used during the design process without necessarily appearing in the final result. This project established the first methods: working with object detection, image generation, and the question of who owns what emerges.

This project pushes further into the approaches the first one opened up. What happens when you push uncertainty to its limits? What kinds of uncertainty actually exist, and how do they differ? How do they take shape? And how can a designer interact with them rather than correct them?

The final project moves beyond visual models entirely. We make the transition to algorithms in a 3D environment, where the visual archetypes baked into image generators do not exist. We apply this to a subject defined by some of the strongest archetypes in product design: the motorcycle. What happens when you remove those archetypes from the brief entirely, and let the algorithm decide the form?
