Materiality and concept
A blind generally acts as both a separator and connector, constantly shifting from being a window, a way to look outward and connect, to a wall, offering a space to isolate and withdraw into oneself.
‘Whispers’ takes the blind as a lens through which to perceive one’s fluctuating emotions. Daily encountered sceneries, mundane souvenirs from home and trips, facial parts, text messages, and traces of George’s routines in his bedroom are printed onto translucent vinyl strips. By lighting it with a torch and letting the viewer navigate through these fragments with it, the work becomes an introspective device. As light passes across it, the images distort, overlap, and break apart. Through this shifting interplay of images and light, a voyeuristic narrative emerges, moving between places, memories, and attachment.
