To What Came First - DDW26 edition
To What Came First - DDW26 edition

Every bachelor student at Design Academy Eindhoven creates two graduation projects, yet the graduation show presents only one. With ‘To what came first’, Blind Spot, a collective of 13 graduates, brings the other unseen projects into the spotlight.

An amalgamation of profiles, materials and techniques

Each graduate develops two full bodies of work in their final semester, but only one is shown at the Graduation Show. This exhibition, curated by the graduates themselves, presents the other.

The works span a wide range of media and crafts, from glass and metal to soap, leather and tobacco leaves. Each project questions what we expect from familiar objects and materials. Why are clothes made to be thrown away? What happens when a bowl turns soft, heavy, or takes on a life of its own? How can a tree become a perishable product in a fraction of the time it took to grow?

Together, the works offer a fresh look at traditional techniques, everyday objects and the histories of materials.
