On Bonds
My work explores the way humans interact with objects and how these silent presences shape our identity and relationships.
For Forward Furniture, I present two shelves at different heights and a mirror, each piece addressing the idea of human bonds. The shelves only become complete when activated by their users—through the placement of personal objects, they turn into intimate extensions of individual identity. The mirror, meanwhile, functions as a constantly shifting portrait, revealing the self in relation to its reflection.
Formally, these pieces challenge conventions of Western design, where joints are usually hidden in pursuit of seamless perfection. Instead, I exaggerate and celebrate the joints: in the smaller shelf, by inserting ceramic elements that make the connections visible and tactile; in the larger one, by using sculptural wooden wedges that transform a structural necessity into an expressive gesture. These decisions turn construction details into metaphors for human relationships—visible, imperfect, and essential.
