Boxed In — Rethinking the Jewellery Box

A jewellery box is often seen as a simple cardboard box with a lid. It fulfils its role in the shadows, used for jewellery’s transport and storage. But jewellery boxes can be so much more. What if some can be more protective, whilst others reveal and display the pieces inside?

Celebrating Treasures

Let’s take these jewellery boxes out of their hiding place and give them a bigger role in our personal environment—honouring the beautiful jewellery pieces and giving them a dedicated place. A place where both, jewellery and box together, are elevated and admired, whether on a dresser or on the wall.

Designer Lotte Schoots has playfully explored this universe of possibilities. Here, not only colour and material, but also the mechanisms play an important role in how the jewellery boxes reveal their treasures. These boxes are no longer just serving to protect during transport or storage, but also exist to reveal and delight.

Lotte Schoots finds inspiration in treasures and trinkets hidden in nature and our daily life. She explores these overlooked details through scale, concept, and colour, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. The designs highlight these discoveries while considering material choice, object lifecycle, and societal impact, often resulting in aesthetically pleasing interior products.
