Can technology grant eternal life, and if so, what exploitation would it impose on our bodies? Technosferatu reimagines the immortal vampire through techno-optimism and the pursuit of eternal youth. It explores how algorithmic systems transform the body into a site of labour, optimisation, and exploitation in the name of longevity. Fusing video installation and critical speculation, it asks: In escaping death, do we risk becoming the undead—quantified, surveilled, and stripped of agency?
Technosferatu unfolds as a protocol, critically examining the materiality of technology and algorithmic infrastructures within longevity culture. This chapter of Technosferatu takes the form of an immersive installation combining digital video, spatial sound, and embodied audience participation.
Upon entering the Technosferatu era, the viewer positions themselves in a metallic, coffin-shaped vertical seat. A sensor activates a 5–7 minute speculative documentary exploring the political entanglements of ageing, data labour, and social media. Simultaneously empowered and exploited, the body emerges as a contested site within techno-utopian narratives. A layered voice-over guides the viewer through fragmented reflections on the biopolitics of ageing, algorithmic governance, and techno-utopian fantasies.
The installation structure measures approximately 2m in height and length and 70cm in width. It includes a vertical screen (approximately 50 inches), and on the back of the coffin-shaped seat, there is a project blurb along with contextual material.
CODE unites artists and non-artists in a journey of collaboration to create digital art installations and performances. Together, they explore how to enhance our digital agency, reduce dependence on Big Tech, and advocate for digital rigts.
