Connections

A furniture collection exploring the reuse of discarded marbles and circular connections.

Connections is a furniture collection that combines local wood and reclaimed stone, revealing the points where the materials fit together and connect. The elegant wooden structure of these pieces can be reproduced, adapted or customised, while the reclaimed stones make each piece unique.

Collect, combine, enhance

Ariane van Dievoet has made material recovery the core of her design work. She creates furniture and objects from discarded stones and mirrors that she collects, transforms, and combines with scrap wood or wood from the Sonian Forest in Brussels.

Sustainability and technology

The designer explores the role that technology can play in repurposing materials, combining traditional joinery techniques with the use of digital tools, like CNC, laser cutting and water jet cutting machines.
These enable the designer to adapt the materials she reclaims for new uses.

Collecting fragments

Each stone selected by Ariane van Dievoet from construction sites or marble scrap piles is carefully preserved and cataloged so that she can use it for future creations. Creating from materials that have already been used invites her to take into account their shape, thickness, and any breaks. These constraints are a driving force and inspiration for her creative process.

Designer and sculptor Ariane van Dievoet creates pieces from off-cuts of materials to highlight their texture and form. In her Brussels studio, she transforms discarded materials into sculptural furniture and objects with the help of digital cutting tools, combined with traditional techniques.
