Collect, combine, enhance
Ariane van Dievoet has made material recovery the core of her design work. She creates furniture and objects from discarded stones and mirrors that she collects, transforms, and combines with scrap wood or wood from the Sonian Forest in Brussels.
Sustainability and technology
The designer explores the role that technology can play in repurposing materials, combining traditional joinery techniques with the use of digital tools, like CNC, laser cutting and water jet cutting machines.
These enable the designer to adapt the materials she reclaims for new uses.
Collecting fragments
Each stone selected by Ariane van Dievoet from construction sites or marble scrap piles is carefully preserved and cataloged so that she can use it for future creations. Creating from materials that have already been used invites her to take into account their shape, thickness, and any breaks. These constraints are a driving force and inspiration for her creative process.
