Design Debate
Welcome to a world where everything seems "wrong": eating meat, smoking, crypto, data, campfires, WhatsApp. Even your houseplant could be a climate culprit. We live in a time full of rules, do's, and don'ts—where daily life seems to be guided by an invisible moral authority. But what if we didn't shrink back in shame, but dared to move forward with imagination?
On Saturday, October 25th, we'll gather designers, policy makers, and unconventional thinkers for the second edition of the Design Debate—live in the large Philips Hall of the iconic Evoluon. Led by Tracy Metz and Wouter van Noort, we'll delve into six propositions on the ethics, power, and possibilities of design in a time of moral pressure and societal tensions. Organized by Next Nature, Dutch Design Week and BIS Publishers.
Propositions
For each proposition, two speakers with opposing views will cross words. They'll open with a powerful argument of no more than three minutes, then engage in a debate with each other and the audience. Don't expect a simple consensus, but rather sharp questions and strong opinions. Because design can and should clash.
Design Debate 2025 is a place for friction and imagination. For anyone who believes that design is more than just solving problems—it's also about questioning, provoking, and dreaming.
