Poly Ply

Flexible Plywood and Polymer Composite

The Wasatch Design Collective presents a new flexible wood composite. The material is durable and has variable flexibility depending on the plywood cut pattern and the durometer of the polymer. We demonstrate these characteristics in three chairs designed to take advantage of this cool material.

Parametric Surface

Poly Ply is made by cutting an intricate pattern into plywood and filling the voids with a flexible polymer. We can vary the cut pattern parametrically across the material surface to provide locally customized properties according to the specific requirements of a particular condition. Combining polymer and plywood in this new way creates a strong, multipliant, and thin sheet that can be used in a range of cool applications.

Hosted by Wasatch Design Collective

The Wasatch Design Collective experiments with folding to solve morphogenic and functional problems. By creating products based on folding principles and practices, we have demonstrated that we can reduce material waste, minimize parts, and reduce shipping impacts. Our mission is to simplify our world through folding.
