A New Material: A Purposeful Life
Who knew eggshells could be a design revolution? Project SHELL by Chau Phan is a project that faces the enormous problem of eggshell waste head-on. By transforming something destined for the bin into a strong, flexible, and sustainable lampshade material, this design gives new purpose to one of the biggest sources of food waste. With its earthy texture and unique feel, this lamp is more than just lighting up your nest; it holds a mission designed to be fulfilled.
The Cycle: From Table to Garden
The innovation doesn't end when you flip the switch. Each lamp is crafted with a complete lifecycle in mind. It starts on your dining table, brightens your work desk, and eventually finds its final home in your garden. Infused with seeds, the lamp ensures it won't just sit in a landfill. Instead, when you're ready to let it go, you can return it to the earth where it will biodegrade and give new life back to the soil, proving a truly sustainable design can also be a beautiful one.
Design Choice + Workshop: The Shapes of Light
Inspired by the iconic lanterns of Vietnam's ancient Hoi An town, which symbolize prosperity and solidarity, these lamps bring a touch of heritage to modern design. SHELL hopes to introduce an "egg-citing" twist on tradition to the Netherlands, blending cultural legacy with a playful, eco-conscious spirit.
