UEG Retrospekt
UEG Retrospekt is a retrospective exhibition dedicated to the idiosyncratic and groundbreaking work of designer Stijn Op De Macks. With an oeuvre that balances between technology, art, and conceptual design, Op De Macks never fails to surprise and challenge. This retrospective brings together his most iconic pieces and shows the evolution of his unique visual language: raw, visionary, and always imbued with critical reflection on identity, culture, and consumption.
Stijn Op de Macks
Stijn Op de Macks (born 1993) is an unmistakably authentic designer. Born and raised in Eindhoven, he continues the city's tradition of electrical innovation in his own unique way. Operating under the name Uppenmasch AG Elektrotechnik, he creates lamps, amplifiers, power banks, fans, light organs and paper shredders, making use of found and reusable materials wherever possible.
Design of our everyday world
While Stijn Op de Macks' work is undeniably functional, it is above all expressive and poetic in its directness. Language plays a significant role in his work: he notes technical specifications directly onto the designs. He employs a trilingual approach, using German — 'die alte Sprache der technischen Welt' — as well as English and Dutch. His work is also fuelled by his fascination with trains, fairground attractions and electronic music. Under the alias DJ TRAXX EHV, he plays deep house.
With Retrospekt, Salon Veneman presents the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to over ten years of continuous production. Stijn's approach is radically hands-on: there is no elaborate plan, he just starts building. The result is a body of work that merges design, technology, and art — simultaneously naïve and visionary. Respecting existing materials and techniques, he sets a new benchmark for the design of our everyday world.
