Concept and thought of the project
Inspired by Iceland’s volcanic landscapes, the 7,300-sq-ft project is designed to respond to the challenges of climate and to respect the existing environment, while guiding visitors through underground spaces and offering new perspectives on the surrounding landscape.
The program includes an underground coffee shop and exhibition space, along with accessible roof terraces where visitors can immerse themselves in the vast horizontal landscape. These three elements are connected by a Möbius strip circulation system, creating a continuous journey between aboveground and underground. The curvilinear architectural forms enhance this seamless flow, offering visitors an evolving spatial experience as they navigate through the site.
By placing most of the program underground, the design minimizes energy use and preserves the landscape with a green roof. Openings in the roof allow natural light to penetrate into the subterranean coffee shop, enriching the dining atmosphere while maintaining harmony with the natural setting. The project reflects a strong commitment to sustainability.
