Mayor of Eindhoven undercover as Renault Design Ride driver

22 October 2018

The mayor of Eindhoven, John Jorritsma, went undercover in a Renault Design Ride outfit to drive visitors to various DDW locations.

Had you visited Design Week (DDW) today (Monday) and taken one of the Renault Design Rides to your destination, you would have had the chance to meet a very special taxi driver. The mayor of Eindhoven, John Jorritsma, went undercover in a Renault Design Ride outfit to drive visitors to various DDW locations.

As a partner of Dutch Design Week 2018, Renault provided 45 units of the 100% electric Renault ZOE to be utilised for free transportation service. This year will be the first time using completely emission-free ‘Design Rides’. This is highly important since we expect approximately 18,000 rides to be taken during DDW.

And of course, we took this opportunity to have a one-on-one moment with the mayor of Eindhoven.

What was your motivation to join the Design Ride-team as taxi driver for one afternoon?

“I really liked experiencing Dutch Design Week from within. The fact that we drive with 47 electric cars and take guests from venue to venue, that’s the way to get in touch with the people who are so interested in our Dutch Design Week.”

What kind of people did you meet?

“I have had people from Ireland and Norway on board. I also spoke with elderly folk who come to Dutch Design Week every year to see what the future has in store for us. If there’s ever a way of finding that out, it’ll have to be by visiting Dutch Design Week.”

Which initiatives do you think are not to be missed by our visitors?

“It is impossible to say because there are more than 100 venues, but for instance Mind the Step at Strijp-S: you’ll see the cooperation between the University of Delft, Twente and Eindhoven. They come together and show the future.”
