(Archive) Fluid Frequency

A collaboration with the intelligence of nature.

This project was part of DDW 2023

Fluid Frequency proposes an innovative methodology employing radical design by gaining knowledge and working closely together with sound frequencies and water (the intelligence of nature). Hereby pushing the boundaries of the making process into innovative ways.

The unbiased opinion of nature.

As humans we tend to make things more beautiful than they are, and as time passes, we lose touch with the fundamental reality of what we try to create. Unlike nature who’s blueprint will always be true to reality. For nature never attempt to deceive us, it moves us by way of it’s matter-by-fact. A universal language is a way how you can describe the unbiased opinion of nature. Water and (sound) frequencies combined translate this universal language we can all perceive. This honesty of nature is used in the design, creating a ‘Fluid design’ approach with no clear beginning or ending. As a result the project can evolve to what it wants to be

The general aim of the research

Is to establish and show a universal language on a biological level, and measuring the immaterial. When talking about universal experience there is a translation between the technical/ mechanical measured frequency and the user’s perception that relates to memory and lived experience. These frequencies are a way to find common ground within the abstraction between the body and nature even though we search for it (sub- consciously) in our daily practices, or in music.

Raw data put into form

The pieces are made with the sound frequencies between 30 and 70 Hz in the 4 different sound waves. (sine, square, triangle and saw). Through this process the intangible becomes tangible. The shapes are simple, yet integrated with variety and complexity such that no two units would ever be identical. The outcome is the way nature shapes itself.
