(Archive) PACKBAGS: build your own

IT'S NOT A BAG, IT'S A SYSTEM

This project was part of DDW 2023
Victoria Hume

PACKBAGS is a modular bag system.

The aim is to be at the forefront of re-thinking consumption culture by offering a more durable approach.

Each item is designed and produced at our workshop in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

BUILD YOUR OWN

We think it’s important that a product can be repaired, and that you can use it for a very long time, since there is already so much stuff around.

That’s why we designed a modular system. All our products are built from a set of easy-to-assemble base modules that make it possible to update and repair a bag during it’s lifetime.

This also lets you build your own bag to express your style and adapt the bag for different situations.

Apart from having modular design as our core, our approach also involves using recycled materials, offer a repair service and additional tools to offset the modern throw-away culture mentality.

A lifetime is what we are built for.

CRAFT

Our modular design is rooted in the craft of basketmaking. Combining this traditional modular approach with contemporary Western design gives our products their unique, clean, technical, yet timeless look. Climbing and cycling culture also inform our design ethos in an effort to combine the practical with the stylish in a search for our own language.

CLOSE TO THE HEART - MADE IN EUROPE

Our materials originate from the same area as where our products are made. Therefore it only makes sense for us to make all of our goods in our own Amsterdam atelier with our own people who enjoy fair pay and working conditions, and a safe environment. Taking care of our surroundings, means taking care of each other. Our raw materials, in part recycled, are sourced from manufacturing facilities in The Netherlands, Italy, Germany, UK, and the Czech Republic.
