UNSEEN

Refugees who visit the Living room have spent the past few months engaging in various creative and practical activities.

The Living room would like to open its doors to the public during Dutch Design Week 2024 to showcase what the space and its people represent, as well as the activities that take place for, by, and with refugees. The goal is to raise awareness and build new relationships.

But what if, as a person, you feel like you’re not allowed to exist?

Through this art project, we shed light on the lives of undocumented refugees, bringing this group out of the shadows of society.

Some of the core values of the Living Room include empathy, mutual assistance, understanding, and care for collective action and knowledge sharing. We aim to convey these values through the work we create.

Starting in early 2024, the daily visitors, as well as local residents of the Living Room, will participate in various activities and projects. During DDW24, the Living Room aims to highlight the following:

- Refu-bikes
- Sewing courses
- Photography lessons
- Weaving project

About de Huiskamer voor Vluchtelingen Eindhoven

The Living room is a safe space where refugees can access basic necessities such as showering, preparing and sharing a warm meal, and washing their clothes. But it’s more than just a place for essentials.

The Living room offers a wide range of activities focused on relaxation, development, and social interaction, including Dutch language lessons, theater, creative arts, a bicycle repair workshop, clothing design and sewing classes, photography, and sports.
