The Space for Sustainability by Design (SBYD.SPACE) showcases explorations of repair and repurposing, new rituals of resource-lightness, and bio-based materials. View our exhibition, join hands-on activities and talks, and try insect and algae snacks at our kiosk at Sectie-C.
DISCOVER SPACES FOR TOMORROW
The exhibition features a multifaceted view on the topic of design and sustainability through 16 different projects and design approaches, each opening up new possibilities for sustainable living and production.
The SPACE FOR REPAIR features a mobile repair station and explores how design can foster and strengthen a culture of repair. The SPACE FOR TEXTILES presents methods of caring for and revitalising discarded clothing, thereby extending its lifespan and reducing waste. The SPACE FOR BIOMATERIALS explores bio-based materials and experiments with novel foods.
Additionally, SBYD's artist/designer-in-residence programme will debut the projects completed by four current residents. The exhibition also features selected student projects from Folkwang University of the Arts that pursue a circular, resource-light, and regenerative design approach.
EXPLORE RESEARCH
Alongside the exhibition, visitors will gain insights into SBYD's research. Central to the experience is a workshop area offering behind-the-scenes views of work in progress. The SPACE FOR NARRATIVES kiosk engages visitors with interactive features. Explore ongoing research through our zines, generate energy on our energy-generator bike, and share your visions of preferred futures.
DISCUSS FUTURES
Join us every Saturday as our artists/designers-in-residence present their findings and work through informative, interdisciplinary talks and panel discussions at the SPACE FOR NARRATIVES kiosk. Explore future possibilities as they showcase their projects on the themes of ‘bio-based materials’ and ‘technology & sustainability.’
