The Embassy of Digital Futures investigates difficult questions about digital inventions and technical changes and seeks for answers. Its goal is to understand our digital futures and help society develop the skills needed to deal with them.

Embassy of Digital Futures

In an era where technological breakthroughs are happening faster than ever before, we are facing major changes. Digital inventions can solve many of our problems, but they also bring new challenges. How do we deal with this new digital version of reality that is taking over our biological, natural world?

The Embassy of Digital Futures explores these difficult questions and seeks answers. Its goal is to understand our digital futures and help society develop the skills needed to deal with them.

Design can play an important role in this quest. It can help us discover what we still need to learn, and how and where we can and want to make adjustments. Not through a one-time design or with a small group of people, but in a structured way and with a whole movement.

Between dream world and nightmare

Digital technology is entering all parts of our lives, often without us even noticing. More and more, algorithms decide what we see, hear, and read, and they influence our thoughts and decisions. While some people dream of a future where technology solves all our problems, others warn about the dangers of a world controlled by machines and data.

We are at a crossroads between utopia and dystopia, between an ideal world and a nightmare. Of course, we don’t want a dystopian digital system. But even a utopia—a perfect digital future—has a chance of going too far. How do we learn to move responsibly between these two extremes?

Digital Futures: Three Paths

The Embassy of Digital Futures presents a three-part programme that helps us deal with technological changes. It raises awareness about algorithms, and provides 'superpowers' to improve our lives.

1. Escape the Algorithm
Algorithms increasingly guide our daily lives, from what we see on social media to the news we read. How can we recognize when we are caught in a web of truths, half-truths, and lies? And what can we do to escape it?

2. Superpowers
Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools are like superpowers: they function like tools in our hands, minds, and bodies. They can help us make better decisions and solve problems. Think about technologies that help doctors avoid mistakes or support farmers to work without pesticides. But what 'superpowers' do we need? And how do we develop and use them?

3. Partner Programme
Moving between utopia and dystopia, between digital dreams and nightmares, is a shared journey. It's a skill we need to develop together. Partnerships and collaborations are the key: only together can we develop these social skills using the power of creation.

About World Design Embassies

World Design Embassies deploys the power of design in the development of new perspectives and concrete directions to societal challenges. In open coalitions, we work with partners and designers on the future.
