Art as Critical Practice

Maastricht Institute of Arts presents projects by alumni bachelor and master programmes. From fine arts, design, communication to architecture. Investigative design into human perception is central to a practice of critical making into craft experience.

Art as critical practice

Since 1823, Maastricht Institute of Arts has been an open and challenging learning community. Where students are given the opportunity to grow into critical professionals who contribute to society in whatever way they can.
The Maastricht Institute of Arts distinguishes itself in the Netherlands by offering programmes based on a coherent educational vision. Students learn to design through research in dialogue with each other.
The Maastricht-Aachen-Liège region offers unique opportunities for an approach that revolves around how people perceive the world, combined with a practice that pays attention to craft experience.
Education has a strong focus on the personal: students discover themselves as artists, designers or teachers and learn to express themselves as such. This helps them not only in their craft, but also as critical and independent cultural entrepreneurs.
