As the theme for 2024 ThingsCon is exploring Generative Things, what will be the impact of extending our digital lives with generative AI on the physical things we live with? How can we design new relations with things with agency?
Interactive session based on reflections of futures thinkers and designers
ThingsCon is 10 years young! We are celebrating this with a special exhibition of the next decade of things made tangible. This exhibition will be part of TH/NGS 2024 held as always in December. To mark ten years of connected things we look at so-called Generative Things; what if the things we use are infused by the new default of our digital life with generative AI?
We invite all young designers to participate and share ideas. We will create an exhibition with the most interesting objects and provide a budget to make them into mockups of the "provotypes".
To kick off the design, we asked renowned international designers and future thinkers to reflect on the theme of Generative Things. At the Salon, during Dutch Design Week, we will present the visions and discuss together the future of things. Expect in this workshop an interactive form of building design fiction. The outcomes will be the design briefings for the participants in the challenge for designers.
Practical information
In the workshop, we dive into the (city) context of the Generative Things, and present a design brief for the participating designers based on reflections by Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino, Anna Garghetti, Heather Wiltse, Iohanna Nicenboim, Johan Redström, Matt Webb, Simone Rebaudengo.
Iskander Smit (ThingsCon/Cities of Things) will present the theme.
Simone Rebaudengo will call in and share one the inspiring projects of oio.studio.
Sen Lin hosts a small interactive session to dive deeper into the theme and provide a brief.
The Salon will take place at Stadslab Eindhoven 23 October 16:00-18:00h
We have a limited capacity, so please register via our meetup-page.
