The 1m2 Workshop seeks to gather insights from the design community. This workshop will function as a live data visualisation, reflecting the investment required to participate in design festivals and the returns these investments bring.

1m2 Workshop: Mapping the Costs and Benefits of Participation in Design Festivals

The 1m2 Collective is an interdisciplinary design platform that promotes diversity and inclusivity within the design industry. Inspired by the financial and networking challenges that many young designers face, the Collective aims to create a more accessible space at design festivals, such as Dutch Design Week (DDW). Over the past three years, the Collective has demonstrated this by fitting numerous designers into just 1m2 of exhibition space. However, to sustain and grow these efforts, the 1m2 exhibition transforms into a workshop form for DDW 2024. The 1m2 Workshop seeks to gather insights from the design community to devise sustainable solutions for ongoing support and inclusivity. This workshop will function as a live data visualisation, reflecting the investment required to participate in design festivals and the returns these investments bring. The space will evolve over the 10-day event, starting with a blank setup and gradually filling with data, ideas, and reflections from the community.

About 1m2 Collective

We are 1m2 Collective;
An interdisciplinary design platform that strives for a more diverse and inclusive design industry.

Main focus: How can design festivals facilitate space for design talent in an inclusive way?

What do we do?

We provide alternative and interdisciplinary exhibition space at important design events where a group of diverse individuals are given the opportunity to show their work to a large (inter)national audience.
