The InfraWall is a modular, biobased multifunctional noise barrier. Made from 100% circular materials. It reduces noise pollution, generates solar energy, improves biodiversity and has integrated water management. Planned installation at the end of 2024 on the A348 near Arnhem.
Sustainable innovation
The InfraWall is a step towards a green and peaceful future. This noise barrier of the future not only blocks noise along roads. The InfraWall ensures that excess rainwater that runs from the road into the verge becomes usable during drier periods. In addition, the noise barrier generates solar energy and a wall of plants ensures more biodiversity. The InfraWall is made with 100% renewable, biobased and circular usable materials, which reduces the CO2 footprint by up to more than 90% compared to regular noise barriers.
A collaboration that grows semester after semester
The first design of the InfraWall was made in 2021. We are now working on the third design of the multidisciplinary InfraWall project. Various groups of HAN students from the studies Industrial Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction, Chemistry and Biology worked together in consecutive semesters.
Success through collaboration in the triangle: companies, government and education
In the last quarter of 2024, a demo model of this noise barrier will actually be installed along the A348 near Arnhem. The students are supported by engineering firm Sweco, Verschilmakerij, Boskalis and the Province of Gelderland. The province of Gelderland makes installation along the A348 possible.
