Pokka: An Extraordinary Creature Made of Chrome

The concept of Pokka

Welcome to the world of Pokka. Artists Dylan van Dael and Mick Thörig have created a unique 3D character that embodies the balance between togetherness, individualism, and the increasing loneliness brought about by digitalisation.

Pokka is a shy, introvert chrome figure representing those who can feel different or secluded. While Pokka appears introverted on the outside, his inner world is vibrant and creative.

This installation at Koelhuis Eindhoven combines visual art and physical art to explore and provide new insights into changing social dynamics. In this exhibition, you will discover various versions of Pokka, crafted using diverse materials and techniques. The project involves multiple collaborations with 3D artists, video artists, and technologists.

The concept of Pokka reflects how digitalisation affects social interactions and increases feelings of loneliness. Pokka's physical posture is hunched and downward-looking, symbolising his struggle with social interactions. His chrome exterior represents the feeling of being 'different' or excluded, while his colourful inner world symbolises his creativity and desire for close friendships.

Live show at Effenaar 24-10-24

As part of the project, Dylan van Dael will be giving a live show at the Effenaar during DDW24 on Thursday, 24-10, to showcase the musical side of the project. During this performance, Pokka visuals will be integrated, creating a unique blend of music and digital art.
