Children and young people are the makers and creative thinkers of the future. Therefore, it is essential that they see and experience the value of design for our future world. Dutch Design Week is the perfect opportunity for both young and old to engage with designers in an accessible way.
Informatiepoint
The DDW Young information point, at Vintage VĂȘtements at Strijp-S, is an inspiring and accessible starting point for children, youth, students in groups, and families wishing to explore DDW. Here visitors can get information about DDW, provided by a Design Guide, and get inspiration before setting out on an exploration.
Activity and film
The workshop for children (up to 12 years old), âYour Superpower for the Earth: Make Your Own Activist Patchâ is organized by Studio Meike Nieuwenhuis. In this workshop children learn in a fun and playful way what activism is. They can use their creativity to design their own unique patch and show how they can help the earth!
Also on view is the film âDead Man's Clothes,â a project that explores what happens to second-hand clothes in Accra, a city in Ghana. The West is sending more and more old clothes to Africa. Some of those clothes are sold in big markets, but many end up in landfills. This is both a way for people to make money, but it can also be dangerous. This project was created by The OR Foundation.
