The Internal

I need to pull back the inauthentic, plastic-y sheen that the overly-conceptual studies at Design Academy Eindhoven have wrapped my work in. I can't even answer what my role is in this whole cacophony that I call my graduation.

See ever since I was a child I constantly broke shit burnt it then glued it, just to break it again. I'm still like that to this day. I let my curiosity push stuff to the limit expecting it to turn into gold, to then watch it turn to shit.

Yet I don't see anything wrong with that, I embrace it, over and over again.

Like an alchemist running around attempting to turn shit to gold.
 
“In Search of Function I Lost Form” delves into Akal's initial search of his role and function in society post graduation from Design Academy Eindhoven, melting away the conformity to function, reacquainting himself with the passion he had lost somewhere along the way.

The External

Entirely consisting of Petrochemical thermoplastics, Akal attempts to create individuality in form, without the involvement of the designer by 3D printing a mold out of temperature resistant plastic.

This Mold is then heated up to 240 Celsius and compressed to replicate compression molding

The manufacturing process causes the deformation of the form with every cycle leading to every piece to be a one of its kind, while damaging the mold every time, eventually ending up in the destruction of the mold, finalising the product series.
