How might we orientate ourselves to build a just and sustainable food system? Futurall presents the “Compass for Change”, your interactive guide to navigate complex food challenges.
An interactive guide
Spin the wheels of the compass to discover how you might orient and reorient yourself in order to move the needle on important missions, such as zero food waste, sustainable land use, circular production chains and making healthy meals accessible for all.
Each turn will challenge you. The compass invites you to see your mission in a different light; asks you to critically engage with how you want to achieve change; and inspires you to keep building on the many system interventions being tested out all across the Netherlands.
Navigating complexity
Our food system is full of interconnected challenges. In order to transition towards more equitable and sustainable food systems, we can no longer see topics such as waste, well-being, biodiversity, climate change, quality of life and social (in)equality in isolation.
Embracing that complexity, however, is easier said than done. For even the most seasoned changemakers, working within complexity can at times be overwhelming. Sometimes you’re so far down in the weeds you lose sight of your mission. Other times the challenges are so hairy, you become stuck and lose the will to move forward.
We have created this compass as a tangible and playful tool to help navigate this complexity, building on the ideas and lessons learned from food system pioneers. The purpose of each layer of the compass is to open up possibilities, provide new perspectives and reveal unexplored avenues for change.
