In What if Lab: Jonge Aanwas, Greenberry (2022) and the Actiecentrum Veiligheid en Zorg Amsterdam (AcVZ ) developed a method to prevent armed incidents among young people and to gain insight in their online world.
The Lookback method
After six months of research and co-creation with experts by experience, youth workers, street coaches, police, and project leaders in Jeugd & Veiligheid, the Lookback method was created. The method allows participants to create a timeline of the period before an incident occurred with information from those involved. By analysing patterns, ‘red flags’ are discovered. This provides insight into how to prevent future incidents.
In collaboration with the AcVZ and various network partners, Greenberry analysed four real-life cases. The method proved effective in gathering insights and recognising missed signals. Lookback has already led to policy changes at a school. Furthermore, the AcVZ sees opportunities to present the results at the administrative level for further policy development.
