Groen voor Blik
For a long time, cars were a central focus point in urban planning. In Dutch cities, cars take up about half of the total road space. As population density increases, the available space remains the same. It’s time to rethink mobility from a human perspective rather than a car-centered one. How can mobility contribute to greater well-being, connection, and a better environment?
In the 2021 Embassy Lab: Groen voor Blik, the city of Eindhoven and Studio 1:1 worked on a concept for liveable streets with more greenery and high resident involvement.
During Dutch Design Week 2023, Studio 1:1 temporarily transformed parking spaces into green and social areas, such as water storage, play areas, gardens, and bike parking, allowing visitors to experience these options for themselves. The next step is to implement this experiment on a street in Eindhoven.
