City Memories

Focuses on the stories, memories, and emotions that scent evokes, hidden layers beneath the speed and structure of urban life.

Archive of Smells presented at Centre Céramique

Archive of Smells is an interactive game by Cemre Kara, The installation guides visitors through three imagined urban districts, each defined entirely by a distinct scent. It will be shown at Dutch Design Week as part of Foundation We Are.

Passing Through Scented Realms

As they move through the scented space, participants are invited to reflect: what kind of place comes to mind? What memories or emotions does this scent awaken in you? Rather than relying on logic or visual cues, the work encourages visitors to slow down, engage their senses, and let emotion, memory, and instinct shape their perception of place.

Designed for all ages, the installation also invites visitors to create and illustrate their own imagined districts inspired by the scents they encounter. Each contribution becomes part of a growing communal archive – a collective record of invisible experiences and emotional landscapes.
