Furniture design with surprising hooks and angles. Modern but elegant. Soft and natural. Furniture and lighting designer Bob Wielaard experiments with bamboo panel and beams. In combination with his sense of proportion and aesthetics, Bob is guided by the qualities and structure of bamboo. Bob Wielaards (side) tables and lighting are being shown for the first time at Dutch Design Week, location Piet Hein Eek. In his studio in Haarlem Bob Wielaard is pushing the limits during the construction of this material. A diner table with V-shaped legs are integrated with the top. His sidetables are well known for their characteristic kink in the legs. Each design is unique or part of a small serie. The execution, craft and design are closely knit. Why bamboo? This fine surface structure displays beautiful tight lines. Because of the layer structure the bamboo is harder with less shrink than most kinds of woods. Besides that, it’s very durable. After the cut down a new bamboo tree rises of thirty meters high. Bamboo is quite simply the hardwood of the 21ste century!
