The loss of a loved one causes an emptiness and fluctuations of emotions like no other, there are no words that can describe it nor words to soothe the feeling of loss. The pieces in this are my way of describing and expressing the feelings that come upon you within the grieving journey.
Grief Space ( Many Grievances)
This exhibition holds a special place in my heart as it is dedicated to my late father who recently passed. The loss of a loved one causes an emptiness and fluctuations of emotions like no other, there are no words that can describe it nor words to soothe the feeling of loss. The pieces in this collection are my way of describing and expressing the feelings that come upon you within the grieving journey. As these pieces may not be seen by everyone but they will always be present like the grief that many people hold within. The exhibition embodies the stages of grief, with each piece taking you through a different aspect of that journey.
Stages of Grief within Objects
The bench called 'Absence' is what you feel the most, living life through the emptiness with-out them being there. The hollow casts of the bench resemble heartbreak, emptiness and hollowness when feeling an absence of the loved one. The lamp is called 'Presence' resembles the guide and spirt of the loves one after death. You begin to see their presence in your daily life guiding you through signs, dreams and soul connection. The chair is called 'Flooding' which resembles an emotional ritual of remembrance of core memories.
Materiality and Technique
The transparent and nearly invisible nature of the work reflects how many individuals go through this process unseen. Absence bench is created with hollow epoxy casting techniques that almost make the object seem not visible. Presence lamp is created with an inflatable body with a resin slope that gives you the feeling of protection above you. Flooding chair is created with solid and hollow epoxy casting techniques to really emphasis the un predictable emotions during remembrance of the person, sometimes the emotions are happy but sometimes the emotions are sad. The material and shapes within the art pieces are created to emphasise the deep loss one goes through.
