A collaboration with the Italian kitchen company Very Simple Kitchen brings a communal kitchen at the center of the space focusing on the humanist value of design and the inclusive experience of eating together. With the maker Omnidecor and Sommer, the duo showcases the versatility of glass, while exploring fabric with byBorre.
Joost van Bleiswijk presents pieces in steel, using bold shapes of strong presence. Kiki van Eijk exhibits her latest work in ceramic and textiles exploring historic crafts of tufting and Raku in a personal way.
Raku is a Japanese low fire process that dates as far back as the 16th century; pots are taken from the kiln while they are still red hot to be placed in materials that catch fire. Kiki firing Raku live during the festival adds another experiential layer to the exhibition.
Neuroscientists studying the impact of technology on people have articulated concerns related to the mediated nature of it; for all its appearance of freedom technology puts us in a shiny box, limiting our thinking, imagination and finally our actions.
