Lena Winterink asked the six dressmakers of the Eendagszaak, about the objects that are most precious to them. With photos of these objects and the stories in mind, she designed a personal print on textile for each woman. With their personal patterns the women designed and made a garment.
Who?
The Personal Patterns is a collaborative project between the Eendagszaak designers and dressmakers, Cascoland and designer Lena Winterink.
Where?
The Eendagszaak (One-Day Business) is a Cascoland initiative in the Lodewijk van Deysselstraat, Amsterdam Nieuw-West. The Eendagszaak is a place where entrepreneurial locals can try out their business idea for one day a week. The Eendagszaak has attracted a group of local entrepreneurs who, with varied business models and approaches, are engaged in designing, making, repairing, embroidering, teaching about, and selling clothing.
What?
Lena Winterink, multidisciplinary designer and storyteller, asked the Eendagszaak entrepreneurs about the objects that are most precious to them. Wedding dresses, family heirlooms and jewellery emerged, each embodying personal stories. Using photos that she took of their objects, and their stories in mind, Lena developed a personal digital print for each businesswoman and printed it on fabric. Each of the patterns belongs to one of the Eendagszaak entrepreneurs, and literally represents a piece of her identity. Each woman was asked to design and make a garment using her personal fabric; thus, the collection spotlights the designing and dressmaking skills in the Eendagszaak.
The Dutch word for patterns, ‘patronen’ echoes the French ‘patronnes’, landladies or proprietors; this collection celebrates the businesswomen who form the Eendagszaak together.
