(Archive) Tableware _ Diversity in milk(ing)

This project was part of DDW 2022
Melk Salon — © Nichon Glerum

Sietske’s homeland has a world-famous culture of milk. It evolved to lose its diversity - and thus biodiversity. The authenticity of the farmer disappeared into anonymity. With the MilkSalon Sietske is restoring our connection with farmers and the (bio)diversity in our cultural landscapes, by taste.

Concept: Sietske Klooster
Material: Milk from various Dutch & Ukrainian farmers
Production: Sietske Klooster, Oksana Denusevuch

As part of the MilkSalon project, Sietske Klooster made the ceramic ‘double cup A’: tableware for comparing two different kinds of milk. For Home(Land) she provided unfinished sets of these ceramics, which are milked by Oksana Denusevuch in Ukraine. Oksana milks the cups with the notion of tasting diversity, using the diversity of milking in Ukraine.

During Dutch Design Week, the MilkSalon will come to life again. Through Sietske as a mediator, and milked cups from Oksana as facilitators, the stories of both Ukrainian and Dutch farmers will be told. Both with their own complexities and richness. It is through milk that Sietske and Oksana make an exchange between the two countries.
